Conference background
Attendees at the three-day Summit were partners, distributors and systems integrators, as well as the Axis Communications Oceania team. The event enabled partner engagement and education, and included presentations on product launches, new innovations and technologies. The Alice Springs Council Mayor, Matt Paterson, was one of the conference speakers.
Why Alice Springs and the Northern Territory
Organisers advised that Alice Springs provided delegates with an authentic Australian outback experience which was a perfect match for the Summit’s ‘True North’ theme.
Cultural connections
The Summit began with a ‘Welcome to Country’ ceremony delivered by Aboriginal artist and Arrernte Elder, Kumalie Riley and an Aboriginal cultural performance was also staged. The Arrernte are the traditional owners of Alice Springs and the ceremony formalised their cultural consent for the Summit.
Unique destination experiences
Three al fresco events made up the social program. They included a unique welcome dinner staged outdoors on the helipad of the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Alice Springs, overlooking the fairways of the Alice Springs Golf Course, a championship desert course at the foot of the Mac¬Don¬nell Ranges.
Another conference dinner held under the stars was at the historic Alice Springs Telegraph Station, a short distance from town, with catering again provided by the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Alice Springs. A highlight was the star-gazing session reviewing the outback night sky, delivered by astronomer Tom Falzon from Alice Springs’ award-winning Earth Sanctuary World Nature Centre.
The Summit Gala Dinner and Awards were staged at the Old Quarry, ten kilometres from Alice Springs, with the soaring sandstone walls and rocky escarpment providing a memorable outdoor venue.
The Summit program also featured a range of optional activities around Alice Springs which included a visit to the golf club for lawn bowls and practice sessions on the Driving Range, an escorted camel trek across the desert sands, a visit to the Alice Springs Brewing Co. for local beer tastings, and an Aboriginal dot-painting class held at the Olive Pink Botanic Gardens.
